'The Mouth of Fleet Lagoon' filming event on 27 June makes ITV regional news
'The Mouth of Fleet Lagoon' filming event on 27 June was an exciting and dramatic live art spectacle. It was part one of Sue Austin's Unlimited commission 'Creating the Spectacle!' which will culminate in a series of live performances in the swimming pool at Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland during the Paralympics. The event, in collaboration with Chesil Bank and Fleet Nature Reserve, Dinosaurs Not Allowed, with Morris teams from Beechcroft and Wyke Regis junior schools, was watched by a sold-out crowd.
The drizzle certainly didn’t dampen their spirits as they participated in a procession punctuated by red flags to celebrate the newfound freedom of the underwater wheelchair. Despite an intensive and thorough testing period the challenging conditions and currents of the Fleet were overpowering on the day and Sue had to make part of the journey assisted by the safety boat. Arriving at the other side and back in the water again she emerged triumphant and completed the event to cheers from the crowd.
ITV South West were also there to witness the event and the report which was broadcast on the evening news is available to watch here.
The film created from the day will be shown at the pool performances in August and September. Tickets for those events will be released in July.
