Vital Xposure presents The Knitting Circle, Spring Tour 2013 to London, Oxford, Liverpool, Wolverhampton and Bristol

25/04/2013 - 20/05/2013

The Knitting Circle is a funny, emotionally challenging new play by Julie McNamara, offering a chilling glimpse into the secret world of the asylums closed in the 1980's.

“Over twenty years ago I ran a women’s group inside one of the old hospitals, where I lived and worked for two years. You had to be seen to be doing something for the hospital shop, so it was
suggested I run a ‘Knitting Circle’. Two years ago I found an old tape from some of the women in that group. I learned a lot about love and a whole heap of mischief. And I still can’t knit!”
(Julie McNamara 2010)

Re-directed by Antoinette Lester, this play is dedicated to forgotten voices. Written from the authentic testimony of survivors, the production is a celebration of the Irrepressible human spirit.

"They were counting on us to remain silent, but we lived to tell the tale"
(Carole, Survivor)
